Conflict active phase

Conflict active state is characterized by persistent attention and thus energy directed towards resolving a conflict that was experienced. It is a physically, emotionally and mentally draining/demanding phase.

The conflict competes for attention with our daily activities. Questions and theories bombard awareness. It is easy to lose footing, get significantly involved, confused, and feel overwhelmed. Lack of sleep, loss of appetite, fatigue, irritation, inability to focus are common symptoms. Others (family/friends) might complain about your absent mindedness, standing/sitting and staring at the wall/in thin air, losing words in a conversation, picking wrong cues, and emotional outbursts/unavailability. Moreover, the conflict activity might get associated with various new related/unrelated triggers. It might also intensify from time to time.

Attempts are made to apply a quick fix and suppress it by diverting attention to more intense activity like Television/video games.  Unfortunately, such attempts are not successful as the conflict activity resurfaces soon - at times more stronger (Fixes that fail archetype).

Attention should ideally not be diverted away from a conflict active state. Aloof attention will help weather the storm sooner. Rather than avoiding it and using diversionary methods one should consider it as an golden opportunity to digest and address the conflict. Remember the direct and fastest route is always to face the issue and navigate through the mess.

If the conflict is too intense and energy draining temporary relaxing diversion is fine. For example a walk in a forest or garden, listening to music, silent aloof attention, writing a diary, heart to heart conversations / complaining without blaming with someone you trust, learning and practicing music and musical instruments, counseling sessions with an experienced therapist, Ayurvedic relaxing treatments, Meditation etc. might help. If conflict active phase proves to be too overwhelming then downgrading or redirecting the conflict can also help.
